Reps. Tim O'Neal and Jason Ortitay are organizing a shredding event scheduled for Saturday, April 26, at Hollywood Casino at the Meadows. This event is intended to help residents of the 48th and 46th legislative districts protect themselves from identity theft through the secure destruction of personal documents.

The event, taking place at 210 Racetrack Road, Washington, runs from 9-11 a.m. "Identity theft remains a problem," commented O'Neal. "There are many ways identity thieves steal data, but one of the simplest ways to prevent falling victim is to properly destroy documents containing sensitive information. I encourage all residents to participate."

Ortitay expressed his willingness to collaborate with O'Neal: "I'm happy to partner with Rep. O'Neal for this event,” he said. “Any steps you can take to avoid identity theft should be employed. I look forward to seeing residents take advantage of this opportunity."

Only paper documents will be accepted, with a limit of three brown paper grocery bags or small cardboard boxes per household. Bags are preferred over boxes, and larger items or those with hardbinding should be reduced to 1-inch thickness. Participants are asked to remain in their vehicles with documents placed in trunks for efficient processing.

For inquiries, O'Neal’s Washington district office is reachable at 724-223-4541, and Ortitay’s Canonsburg district office is available at 412-221-5110.

The 48th Legislative District in Washington County includes various townships and boroughs such as the city of Washington, Amwell, and Donora. The 46th District encompasses parts of Allegheny and Washington Counties, including South Fayette Township and Cecil.
