The Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (PBDA) has provided a grant to Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania, Inc., located in Bridgeville, Allegheny County. The grant will facilitate the provision of 50 laptops, as announced by Senator Devlin Robinson.
This initiative aims to improve digital connectivity for students and educators, offering them access to essential learning and career preparation tools. "Technology is a critical resource for shaping the next generation of leaders," stated Robinson. "This grant will empower Junior Achievement to continue its mission of inspiring young people and equipping them with the skills they need to succeed in today’s world."
The funding comes from the Federal American Rescue Plan Act Digital Connectivity Technology Program. To qualify for this program's statewide $20 million allocation, organizations needed to show that affordability is a significant barrier to broadband adoption.
The PBDA functions as an independent agency within the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. Its responsibilities include developing a statewide broadband plan and distributing federal and state funds to enhance broadband infrastructure in unserved and underserved areas throughout Pennsylvania.
