Beginning November 12, Pennsylvania veterans who have earned the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (GWOT-EM) can apply for a specialty license plate recognizing their service. This initiative is sponsored by Senator Devlin Robinson through legislation included in Act 60 of 2024. The measure aims to honor the sacrifices made by veterans who served overseas during the Global War on Terror.
"This license plate offers a public acknowledgment of Pennsylvania veterans’ bravery and patriotism in the face of unprecedented challenges abroad," stated Robinson. "With this symbol, we proudly honor the contributions and sacrifices made by our veterans who stood on the front lines in the fight against global terrorism."
The GWOT-EM was established by President George W. Bush on March 12, 2003, to recognize Armed Forces members deployed in direct service following the September 11, 2001 attacks. The new license plate allows these veterans to display their dedication to the nation and acknowledges Pennsylvanians' gratitude for their service.
Veterans eligible for this recognition can start applying for the GWOT-EM specialty license plate at their local Pennsylvania Department of Transportation office or online beginning November 12.
