Rep. Andrew Kuzma of the 39th Legislative District in Pennsylvania has secured a position on the House Judiciary Committee as he begins his second term. The committee is known for handling significant legislative matters, having processed and enacted numerous bills in the previous session.

Kuzma, an attorney by profession, expressed his enthusiasm for contributing his legal expertise to the committee's work. "Last legislative session, the House Judiciary Committee had the most bills referred to it, reported out to the full House and enacted into law," he stated. He emphasized the importance of keeping laws current and relevant to everyday life issues.

In addition to his role on the Judiciary Committee, Kuzma will serve on three other committees: Game and Fisheries, Local Government, and Professional Licensure. Each committee plays a crucial role in shaping legislation related to their respective areas.

The House Judiciary Committee oversees various legal topics including identity theft, firearms laws, domestic violence, child abuse laws, state prisons, and criminal law. Kuzma highlighted his past success with this committee when it passed legislation banning gas station heroin.

The Game and Fisheries Committee collaborates with the Pennsylvania Game Commission and Fish and Boat Commission to review performance reports and address relevant legislation. The Local Government Committee deals with municipal codes affecting local government operations across Pennsylvania's more than 2,500 local units.

The Professional Licensure Committee handles legislation concerning professional licensing boards within the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs in the Department of State. This includes oversight of regulations affecting professionals such as physicians, cosmetologists, real estate agents, and funeral directors.

Kuzma represents parts of Allegheny County including Elizabeth Township and South Park Township as well as sections of Washington County like Union Township and Monongahela City.
