Rep. Valerie Gaydos of Allegheny County has expressed support for Mainspring Energy's recent $87 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. The grant, under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law's Advanced Energy Manufacturing and Recycling Grants Program, will help establish a Linear Generator manufacturing facility in Allegheny County. This initiative is expected to create over 600 skilled jobs in clean power generation.
“It is inspiring to witness how our region is transforming into a hub for advanced manufacturing,” Gaydos stated. She emphasized that the facility signifies an economic boost and reflects a commitment to clean energy leadership.
Linear generators are an advanced power generation technology designed for utilities, data centers, microgrids, and commercial and industrial use.
“I want to extend my thanks to the Allegheny Conference and the Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce for their work in fostering support for Mainspring,” Gaydos added.
The facility, near Pittsburgh International Airport, will cover nearly 300,000 square feet and produce up to 1,000 Linear Generators annually. These generators can supply electricity to approximately 250,000 homes. With a total investment exceeding $175 million, this project aims to rejuvenate the local economy by utilizing regional skilled labor.
“Having advocated for this initiative and supporting its importance to growing businesses in our region, I am excited to see the efforts of our business community come to fruition,” said Gaydos. She anticipates groundbreaking in 2025 and expects positive community impacts.
