State Senator Devlin Robinson | Pennsylvania
Legislation led by Senator Devlin Robinson has been enacted, aiming to improve Pennsylvania's international relations. The law, supported by both parties, establishes an Ireland Trade Commission to build strong connections between Pennsylvania and Ireland.
The newly signed Act 116 of 2024 creates the Ireland Trade Commission. This initiative is focused on enhancing educational, economic, governmental, and cultural ties between the two regions. Senator Robinson, who co-chairs the American Irish State Legislators Caucus, has been a vocal supporter of the Irish American community and previously sponsored similar legislation in the Senate with Senate Bill 1121. With nearly 16% of Pennsylvanians being of Irish descent, this commission represents a significant move towards cross-cultural collaboration and honoring shared heritage.
"Through the creation of the Ireland Trade Commission, we are building a platform for economic growth and cultural exchange," stated Robinson. "This initiative is a tribute to Pennsylvania’s deep Irish roots and a forward-looking commitment to mutually beneficial opportunities for our state and Ireland."
The commission will work on strengthening relations between Pennsylvania and Ireland by promoting trade, investment, and collaboration in business and academic sectors. It aims to facilitate economic exchanges, encourage joint policy initiatives, and promote investment partnerships that benefit both areas. The commission will consist of appointed members with expertise in Irish affairs or an interest in trade. They will meet quarterly to evaluate progress, develop recommendations, and submit reports to the legislature and governor to ensure transparency and alignment with Pennsylvania's economic objectives.
