State Senator Devlin Robinson | Pennsylvania
Legislation spearheaded by Senator Devlin Robinson has been enacted, marking a significant enhancement to Pennsylvania's disaster response capabilities. The newly signed law establishes an Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Task Force in western Pennsylvania, a move that garnered bipartisan support.
“With this legislation, we are elevating our state’s emergency response network and bolstering our readiness to protect communities when they need it most,” stated Robinson. “This task force ensures that western Pennsylvania will have access to vital, life-saving resources during critical moments.”
The new law, Act 113 of 2024, authorizes the creation of the USAR task force. It received $6 million in funding from the recent state budget following advocacy efforts by Robinson. This unit is designed to complement the existing Task Force One located in southeastern Pennsylvania, thereby expanding the state's disaster response infrastructure.
Equipped with trained professionals including firefighters, engineers, medical personnel, canine handlers, and emergency managers, the task force is ready for rapid deployment in emergencies such as structural collapses, floods, and hurricanes. Robinson was responsible for sponsoring Senate Bill 792.
