State Senator Devlin Robinson | Pennsylvania
Senator Devlin Robinson has expressed approval following the Pennsylvania Senate's passage of a significant bill aimed at bolstering urban search and rescue efforts in western Pennsylvania. The legislation, known as House Bill 843, seeks to establish a dedicated task force for Allegheny County and surrounding areas. This initiative aims to address existing gaps in emergency response capabilities while ensuring compliance with state and federal standards.
The bill mandates the Joint State Government Commission to conduct a comprehensive study of the state's current search and rescue resources. This assessment is intended to enhance Pennsylvania's readiness for natural disasters and other large-scale emergencies.
"This is a huge step forward for the safety of our communities in western Pennsylvania," Robinson stated. "Establishing this team will not only save lives in times of disaster but will also strengthen our preparedness to meet standards and attract future resources. I’m proud to support this initiative and will continue working to ensure its swift implementation."
In the 2024-25 budget, Senator Robinson secured $6 million in state funding to support the newly formed task force based in western Pennsylvania. He remarked, "With the proper funding now secured and the authorization to elevate western Pennsylvania response teams to state-recognized status, Allegheny County and its neighboring communities will receive vital support during emergencies."
Following its approval by the Senate, House Bill 843 is set to proceed to the governor for final consideration.
