Tens of thousands of students in Pennsylvania would gain greater access to affordable post-secondary education and career preparation programs under a package of bills approved by the Senate this week. The legislation, which received bipartisan support, is part of the "Grow PA" initiative aimed at connecting students with high-demand careers within the state.

Senator Devlin Robinson (R-37), who sponsored one of the key bills, highlighted that the Grow PA plan seeks not only to make education and career training more affordable but also to incentivize graduates to remain in Pennsylvania after completing their degrees and certifications.

Robinson's legislation, Senate Bill 1152, aims to expand the Ready to Succeed Scholarship Program. This program offers scholarships to academically strong students to help cover post-secondary education costs. The bill proposes increasing household income limits from $126,000 to $175,000 and lowering the GPA requirement to qualify for assistance from 3.0 to 2.5.

"Expanding the Ready to Succeed Scholarship Program is a vital step toward making post-secondary education more accessible for Pennsylvania’s young people," said Robinson. "By adjusting the requirements, we are opening doors for more students to achieve their academic and career goals. This legislation is a cornerstone of our Grow PA initiative, which is dedicated to fostering a more competitive and educated workforce in our state."

In addition to scholarship expansion, the Grow PA plan includes significant investments in career and technical education as well as dual enrollment programs.
