Legislation supporting disabled veterans has been unanimously approved by the Senate Game and Fisheries Committee, according to the bill’s sponsor, Sen. Devlin Robinson (R-37). Senate Bill 698 would require the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) to issue Military Event License Exemptions and Permits for disabled veterans’ rehabilitation and enjoyment.

Under the proposed bill, Purple Heart recipients and disabled veterans will be exempt from license and permit fee requirements while participating in PGC-permitted events. The events are held on private land with the express approval of the landowner, without imposing significant costs or resource burdens on the PGC.

“It is essential that we support our disabled veterans who have made tremendous sacrifices for the freedoms we all enjoy,” Robinson stated. “Removing financial and logistical roadblocks to aid in their physical and mental well-being is paramount. This legislation seeks to honor their service by providing them with opportunities for recreation and rehabilitation.”

The bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.
