The Senate has passed legislation to expand the Ready to Succeed Scholarship Program, as announced by Sen. Devlin Robinson (R-37), the bill's sponsor. Senate Bill 1152 aims to broaden the scholarship program, which offers financial aid to academically successful students for post-secondary education expenses.
The bill proposes raising household income limits from $126,000 to $175,000 and lowering the minimum GPA requirement to 2.5, thereby increasing eligibility for more students.
"I am thrilled to sponsor legislation to expand the popular Ready to Succeed Scholarship Program, which helps students be able to better afford higher education opportunities," Robinson stated. "I hear from my constituents constantly about the struggle of student loans and debt just because they want to further their education. Senate Bill 1152 will be a breath of fresh air for these individuals, their families and our communities."
This legislation is part of the Senate’s Grow PA bill package, designed to assist more young people in Pennsylvania in pursuing post-secondary education and career training. The reform plan includes seven bills intended to enhance Pennsylvania's competitiveness in attracting and retaining students for college, certificate programs, and job-training courses.
The bill now moves to the House of Representatives for consideration.
