The House of Representatives has approved Senator Devlin Robinson’s (R-37) legislation aimed at enhancing Pennsylvania’s manufacturing industry. Senate Bill 497, known as the Max Manufacturing Initiative Act, proposes to offer grants and loans to eligible applicants in advanced manufacturing. This sector employs innovative technologies to develop and improve products across various industries.
The act would enable state-related universities across the commonwealth to collaborate with engineering firms, enhancing research, fostering business partnerships, producing high-value products, and creating well-paying jobs.
“Advanced manufacturing is the backbone of Pennsylvania’s economy, driving innovation, sustainability and global competitiveness,” Robinson stated. “By embracing cutting-edge technologies and processes, we are not only preserving our rich industrial heritage but also paving the way for a future of economic growth and job creation.”
In the United States, the manufacturing industry generates more than $4 trillion annually. Pennsylvania's robust manufacturing sector employs over 564,700 residents – nearly 10% of all jobs in the state.
“Pennsylvania is not just manufacturing products – it’s manufacturing the future,” Robinson added.
The bill now heads to the governor for consideration.
