North Fayette Township issued the following announcement on Sept. 23.

The North Fayette Township Volunteer Fire Department has recently placed 18 new Kenwood Portable Radios into service. This purchase was made possible through a grant received from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. This award now marks the third time that the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has made a generous grant award to the North Fayette Township Volunteer Fire Department.

The portable radio is a valuable but often overlooked tool a firefighter uses on an emergency scene. It’s a lifeline for crews in a burning building to communicate to those outside as well as being a vital part of command and control at an emergency for an incident commander to communicate to his or her crews. The new radios have positioned us to be ready for any possible upgrades in the 911 communication system, as they are P25 compatible with Bluetooth capability. In the near future, the Fire Department hopes to upgrade their Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). Many SCBA units are Bluetooth compatible, and coupled with the portable radio can allow the wearer to communicate with greater clarity.

The North Fayette Township Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation for the grant award and for being a great neighbor to the North Fayette Community and asks all local residents to consider patronizing Firehouse Subs. When customers round up their total check amount or participate in other promotions that benefit the charitable foundation, that money goes to support first responders including ones right here in the West Hills area of Allegheny County. In the few short years that Firehouse Subs has been a member of the North Fayette / West Hills community, they have proven they can and will give back to the communities where they are located.
