HARRISBURG – Rep. Natalie Mihalek (R-Allegheny/Washington) and Sen. Devlin Robinson (R-Allegheny/Washington) have announced a significant development for the Bethel Park Wastewater Treatment Facility. The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) has approved a $15 million low-interest loan for upgrades at the facility.

"Maintenance of utility infrastructure systems is a major safety concern, and I am glad local officials are identifying important upgrades and working hard to make them happen," stated Rep. Natalie Mihalek. "This is precisely why Pennsylvania has the PENNVEST program, to help get these plans from development to implementation."

The project will involve the installation of various devices to monitor flow accurately and the addition of new raw sewage pumps, process pumps, grit removal units, and screening equipment. Additionally, new facilities such as a headworks building, sludge removal system, conveyance facility, and phosphorus removal facilities are part of the upgrade plan.

"I am very pleased that assistance from the PENNVEST program will help with these needed upgrades," expressed Sen. Devlin Robinson. "Anytime you can address safety and health concerns, it is certainly a win. This project will be a huge benefit for many and serves the intent of the program."

PENNVEST plays a crucial role in providing grants and low-interest loans for sewer, stormwater, and drinking water projects across Pennsylvania. These projects not only enhance the environment and public health but also create economic growth opportunities and jobs for workers in the state. The funding for PENNVEST projects is sourced from a combination of state and federal funds.
