Rep. Jason Ortitay has announced the allocation of over $312,000 in grants from the Gaming Economic Development and Tourism Fund (GEDTF) Program for projects in McDonald and Oakdale boroughs. The GEDTF program is designed to support various development initiatives within Allegheny County, including economic growth, infrastructure improvements, community enhancements, job training, public safety, and public interest projects. Funding for this program is sourced from taxes levied on slot machines in casinos.
Ortitay highlighted the significance of these projects: “Both of these projects will address local issues,” he said. He also acknowledged the collaboration with Sen. Devlin Robinson to bring the Oakdale project to fruition: “I’m pleased to have been able to work with Sen. Devlin Robinson to make the Oakdale project a reality." The Oakdale initiative aims to mitigate flooding through a comprehensive approach. Meanwhile, improvements at East End Park in McDonald are also planned.
Specifically, McDonald will receive $120,000 for development and security upgrades at East End Park. Oakdale's grant of $192,363 will be used for riprap installation with stone to stabilize the Clinton Avenue stream bank.
The 46th Legislative District encompasses South Fayette Township and McDonald and Oakdale boroughs in Allegheny County as well as several other townships and boroughs in Washington County.
