Rep. Natalie Mihalek announced that several local governments in the 40th Legislative District have received grant funding for various projects. Among these, Peters Township has been awarded a $500,000 grant to continue renovations at Peterswood Park.

"The project at Peterswood Park’s baseball fields has been in various phases of construction for a few years because of the dedicated work of local officials who have been planning, fundraising and advocating for quite a while," said Mihalek. "This grant keeps that momentum and soon, Peters Township families and visitors will have another first-class resource."

The funding will address drainage issues and install artificial turf on field one at Peterswood Park. Improvements to dugouts and press boxes have already begun, with turf replacement on field two underway.

In Upper St. Clair Township, a $641,300 grant will fund the second phase of improvements at the Morton Field Complex. This includes new soccer goals, turf grooming equipment, trash receptacles, benches, and playground equipment.

These grants are part of the Local Share Account program which supports economic development through gaming funds collected under Act 71 of 2004.

The Bethel Park School District has secured a $1.7 million grant from the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program for roof replacement at Independence Middle School. The total cost is over $3.4 million.

"I know of no local government that doesn’t have a ‘wish list’ of projects but coming up with the finances is always a challenge," said Mihalek. "This grant system helps close those gaps and helps municipal leaders provide resources without passing the burden on to taxpayers."

Additional grants include:

- Municipality of Bethel Park: $338,186 for an ADA-compliant restroom at Miner’s Park.

- Municipality of Bethel Park: $52,407 for a new police vehicle.

- Peters Township Sanitary Authority: $300,000 to upgrade the Brush Run Water System.

- Peters Township School District: $300,000 for roof replacement at Bower Hill Elementary School.
