Rep. Natalie Mihalek and Sen. Devlin Robinson announced the approval of a $15 million low-interest loan by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) for upgrades to the Bethel Park Wastewater Treatment Facility. This facility is operated by the Bethel Park Municipal Authority.

"Maintenance of utility infrastructure systems is a major safety concern, and I am glad local officials are identifying important upgrades and working hard to make them happen," stated Mihalek. "This is precisely why Pennsylvania has the PENNVEST program, to help get these plans from development to implementation."

The planned project will include several significant enhancements such as devices for accurate flow monitoring from separated areas, new raw sewage pumps, process pumps, gravity vortex grit removal units, and both coarse and fine screens. Additionally, it will feature a new headworks building, sludge removal and conveyance facility, and phosphorus removal facilities.

Robinson expressed satisfaction with the assistance provided by PENNVEST: "I am very pleased that assistance from the PENNVEST program will help with these needed upgrades. Anytime you can address safety and health concerns, it certainly is a win. This project will be a huge benefit for many and serves the intent of the program."

PENNVEST offers grants and low-interest loans across Pennsylvania for sewer, stormwater, and drinking water projects aimed at enhancing environmental conditions and public health while also fostering economic growth and job creation in the state. The funding originates from both state and federal sources.
