Rep. Andrew Kuzma has announced a free shredding event scheduled for Saturday, April 20, at the Elizabeth Borough Volunteer Fire Company. The event aims to help residents of the 39th Legislative District protect themselves from identity theft by securely destroying personal documents.
The shredding service will be available from 10 a.m. to noon at 101 S. First St., Elizabeth. "Last year’s event drew a large crowd, and I am happy to offer this opportunity again," Kuzma stated. He emphasized the importance of destroying personal documents rather than discarding them in the trash as a measure against identity theft.
Residents are encouraged to bring paper documents for shredding, with a limit of three brown paper grocery bags or small cardboard boxes per household. Bags are preferred over boxes, and no businesses will be permitted to participate. Items such as large binder clips or hardbound covers will not be accepted, and materials thicker than one inch must be broken down.
In addition to document shredding, dry goods for the food pantry and old medication collected by the police department will also be part of the event's activities.
The 39th Legislative District encompasses several areas in Allegheny County including Elizabeth, Forward and South Park townships; Elizabeth, Jefferson Hills, Pleasant Hills and West Elizabeth boroughs; as well as Union and part of Carroll townships; Finleyville; New Eagle boroughs; and Monongahela city in Washington County.
