HARRISBURG – As a free service to the community, Reps. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) and Andrew Kuzma (R-Allegheny) will be holding a shredding event on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Ringgold Middle School. The event aims to help residents of the 48th and 39th legislative districts safeguard against identity theft by securely destroying personal documents.

The event will take place from 9-11 a.m.

“Identity theft continues to be a problem,” O’Neal said. “Properly destroying documents with sensitive information is one of the easiest ways to prevent becoming a victim. I encourage all residents to take advantage of this opportunity.”

“My first shredding event earlier this year was very popular,” Kuzma said. “I’m happy to partner with Rep. O’Neal to bring this event to the southern portion of my legislative district. However, no matter where you live in either of our districts, you are welcome to attend.”

Acceptable items include all paper documents, limited to three brown paper grocery bags or small cardboard boxes per household; businesses are not permitted. Bags are preferred over boxes, and large binder clips or hardbound covers will not be accepted. Materials thicker than one inch must be broken down.

Participants should place items for shredding in their vehicle trunks and remain in their vehicles during the process for efficiency. Upon arrival at the event, participants should open their trunks.

For more information, contact O’Neal’s Washington district office at 724-223-4541 or Kuzma’s Pleasant Hills district office at 412-382-2009.

The 48th Legislative District includes various areas within Washington County such as the city of Washington; Amwell; parts of Carroll (Districts 3, 4 and 5); East Finley; Fallowfield; Morris; North Franklin; parts of North Strabane (Districts 1 through 5); Nottingham; Somerset; South Franklin; South Strabane; West Finley townships; and boroughs like Donora, East Washington and Green Hills.

The 39th Legislative District covers Elizabeth, Forward and South Park townships along with Elizabeth, Jefferson Hills, Pleasant Hills and West Elizabeth boroughs in Allegheny County as well as Union and parts of Carroll townships including Finleyville and New Eagle boroughs plus the city of Monongahela in Washington County.
