State Representative Jason Ortitay has announced that 13 fire and ambulance companies in the 46th Legislative District will receive a total of nearly $200,000 in Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grants. The grant program, which has been in place since 2000, is available to both volunteer and career fire companies, as well as emergency medical services and rescue squads in Pennsylvania.

According to Rep. Ortitay, the grants can be used for a variety of purposes, including facility construction or repair, equipment purchase or repair, debt reduction, and training. The exact funding amounts are contingent upon the recipients filing their grant agreements with the Office of the State Fire Commissioner.

Ortitay expressed his appreciation for the dedication and hard work of the firefighters and emergency medical service personnel, stating, "Firefighter and emergency medical service personnel go above and beyond on a daily basis to keep us safe. These grants are just a small way to help them do their job. Many emergency service personnel devote a lot of time to raise funds. The grants help lighten the burden a little."

The grants have been awarded to the following fire companies in the 46th Legislative District:

- Canonsburg Volunteer Fire Department - $16,952

- Cecil Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 - $14,423

- Cecil Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 3 of Millers Run - $14,423

- Chartiers Township Volunteer Fire Department No. 1 - $14,034

- Fairview Volunteer Fire Department - $14,423

- Houston Volunteer Fire Department - $13,840

- McDonald Volunteer Fire Department - $16,952

- Mount Pleasant Volunteer Fire Company - $14,423

- Oak Ridge Volunteer Firemen's Association - $13,451

- Oakdale Hose Company - $15,007

- South Fayette Volunteer Fire Department - $14,423

- SouthBridge Emergency Medical Service - $15,000

- Sturgeon Volunteer Fire Department - $15,590

The 46th Legislative District includes South Fayette Township and McDonald and Oakdale boroughs in Allegheny County. It also encompasses Cecil, Chartiers, Mt. Pleasant, and North Strabane townships, as well as Canonsburg, Houston, and McDonald boroughs in Washington County.

This initiative aims to provide support to the brave men and women who risk their lives every day to protect their communities. By alleviating some of the financial burden faced by these fire and EMS companies, the grants will enable them to continue their important work efficiently and effectively.
