Sen. Devlin Robinson (R-37) has announced that more than $3.5 million in funding from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) will be awarded for local projects in Allegheny County. The funding will be used for various initiatives aimed at enhancing the community and ensuring the safety and enjoyment of its residents.
"These projects are being funded by state dollars that are returning to the district and being utilized toward the enjoyment and safety of our community," said Robinson. "I am pleased to assist in the securing of these funds, and I look forward to seeing the projects come to fruition."
One of the projects receiving funding is the Parrish Park Playground Rehabilitation Project in the Borough of Rosslyn Farms. The project will receive $195,100 from the CFA's Greenway, Trails, and Recreation funds. This funding will be used for the initial phase of the project, which includes the removal of existing play equipment and vegetation, as well as grading and drainage work. Additionally, a new retaining wall, steps, and playground barrier fence will be built to meet new design and safety requirements.
The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy will also benefit from the CFA funding, receiving $139,801 from the Orphan or Abandoned Well Plugging funds. This funding will be utilized to close an oil and gas well located on the Toms Run Nature Reserve in Kilbuck Township. By plugging the well, the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy aims to market the nature reserve as a destination for those seeking forests, wildlife, and solitude. This closure will also eliminate any potential risk to public health and safety.
In addition to these projects, several initiatives throughout Allegheny County will receive funding through the Allegheny County Gaming Economic Development and Tourism Fund. These projects aim to facilitate economic development and enhance tourism opportunities throughout the county.
The CFA, established in 2004, serves as an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. Its primary role is to administer the commonwealth's economic stimulus packages.
This funding announcement by Sen. Devlin Robinson highlights the commitment to the community's well-being and the importance of investing in local projects. With these funds, Allegheny County can continue to develop and improve its recreational areas, preserve natural reserves, and promote economic growth.
