Jan. 17, 2024 - Rep. Valerie Gaydos (R-Allegheny) has announced that 10 projects in the 44th Legislative District have received nearly $2.1 million in state grant funding from the Gaming Economic Development and Tourism Fund (GEDTF) program. The funding was secured through the efforts of Gaydos and Sen. Devlin Robinson (R-Allegheny).
Gaydos expressed her satisfaction with the allocation of funds, stating, "I am pleased that tax dollars are returning to our communities to help fund these important projects. We must do everything in our power to keep people safe and secure, as well as give everyone the opportunity to live a healthy lifestyle. These projects will help to promote continuous improvements in services to better aid our residents."
Among the projects awarded grants in the 44th District are several infrastructure improvements. Sewickley Borough will receive $310,000 for repairs to their borough building, including a staircase landing and updates to the parking lot. Glen Osborne Borough will receive $134,800 for the replacement of old and deteriorated sewer pipes. The Western Allegheny Community Library has been granted $200,000 for the resurfacing of their driveway and parking area, as well as the installation of safety guard/guide rail.
Other projects include renovations to the Sweetwater Arts Center in Sewickley Borough, upgrades to the Beaver Road retaining wall in the Borough of Edgeworth, and funding for the Valley Ambulance Authority in Moon Township to provide life-saving protective equipment for employees responding to violent incidents.
Furthermore, the Haysville Bridge and Road Repair Project in Haysville Borough, the Robert Morris University Campus Security Improvement project in Moon Township, the replacement of the Leetsdale Boat Launch Ramp in Leetsdale Borough, and roadway improvements in Crescent Township have also been awarded funds.
The GEDTF program aims to promote development in Allegheny County by funding projects that contribute to economic growth, infrastructure improvements, community development, job training, public safety, and public interest. The program is funded through taxes assessed on slot games in casinos.
The funding awarded to these projects will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the communities in the 44th District. With improvements to infrastructure, public safety, and community facilities, residents can expect a better quality of life. The efforts of Rep. Valerie Gaydos and Sen. Devlin Robinson in securing these funds are commendable and reflect their commitment to serving their constituents.
