Senator Devlin Robinson and Representative Arvind Venkat have announced that the Ohio Township Volunteer Fire Company will receive $340,276 in state funding to purchase a new pumper tanker. The announcement was made shortly before Pennsylvania First Responders Day, which recognizes the contributions of emergency personnel such as firefighters, EMTs, and police officers.
“Our volunteer firefighters play an essential role in keeping communities safe, and they deserve strong support,” said Robinson. “This low-interest loan will allow the Ohio Township Volunteer Fire Company to modernize its fleet and continue providing lifesaving services. I’m proud to work with Rep. Venkat to ensure first responders have the tools they need to protect the families who count on them.”
The funding will be used for a 2025 Rosenbauer custom pumper tanker, which is expected to arrive in 2026. The new vehicle has a capacity of 3,000 gallons of water and can disperse up to 2,000 gallons per minute. It will replace the company’s current pumper tanker that dates back to 1993.
“As an emergency physician, I have seen firsthand how the crucial work of our fire services and first responders can save lives,” said Venkat. “As a legislator, I have seen how many fire companies are struggling with costs. I am committed to supporting our firefighters so they have the resources to continue serving us all.”
The Office of the State Fire Commissioner administers this loan program, which provides affordable financing options for facility and equipment upgrades for fire and emergency service organizations across Pennsylvania. This support aims to maintain volunteer firefighting efforts while reducing financial strain on local communities.
