Rep. Andrew Kuzma announced that over $2.74 million in grants have been secured for 17 projects across the 39th Legislative District, with funding provided by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).

ā€œI’m proud to champion these projects,ā€ Kuzma said. ā€œThey address critical needs in our community. Delayed maintenance and improvements end up being more costly down the line. I’m pleased we are getting these done now.ā€

Funding comes from several sources, including the Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF), which aims to promote economic development and ensure safe transportation systems throughout Pennsylvania. Elizabeth Borough will receive $252,503 to replace a pedestrian stairway connecting South Third Avenue to Center Avenue, while Jefferson Hills Borough is set to get $550,000 for rehabilitating a section of Peters Creek Road.

The Pennsylvania Small Water and Sewer Program is providing grants to improve water supply and sewer infrastructure. The City of Monongahela will use $304,310 to replace part of its storm sewer collection system near Mounds Park. Finleyville Borough has been awarded $100,000 for storm sewer upgrades aimed at preventing runoff flooding. Pleasant Hills Borough will construct new drainage infrastructure along Saratoga Drive with a $150,000 grant, and West Elizabeth Sanitary Authority will upgrade its Ferry Street Lift Station using $55,250.

Local Share Account grants—funded through gaming revenues under Act 71 of 2004—will support various public interest projects in the region. Union Township is receiving two separate grants: $77,450 for demolishing buildings at a decommissioned military site and $192,888 for streambank restoration at Pleasant Stream Park. Other recipients include West Elizabeth Borough ($24,750 for borough building renovations), Jefferson Hills Borough ($145,000 for EMS building improvements), City of Monongahela ($100,000 for stormwater management near Mounds Park), New Eagle Borough ($200,000 for fire department social hall repairs), Forward Township ($198,100 for road repairs), Buena Vista Volunteer Fire Department ($117,000 for roof replacement and exterior improvements), Elizabeth Township (two grants totaling $160,800 for athletic field construction and equipment purchase), and W.M.B.U., which receives $150,000 to renovate its Blythedale building as an ADA-compliant warming shelter.

The 39th Legislative District covers parts of Allegheny County—including Elizabeth, Forward and South Park townships; Elizabeth, Jefferson Hills, Pleasant Hills and West Elizabeth boroughs—and areas within Washington County such as Union Township; part of Carroll Township; Finleyville; New Eagle boroughs; and the city of Monongahela.
